Stephanie Crabe

We're Proud to Annouce the launch of StephanieCrabe.com!

This was a great site to work on with a wonderful and creating client! It was a real treat to design since I don't get to work with leopard print that much, and while I had definite direction and a few suggestions from Stephanie, she gave me carte blanche to create the design and I'm thrilled to say she loved it. Since then it's become one of my favorites and I look forward to working with her again.

At first I couldn't believe it was even possible, but Facebook is getting rid of FBML!

FBML was a significant requirement if you wanted your application to haev the full support of the facebook platform, and was a requirement if you wanted your app to have an application tab so your app couple be added to the collection of tabs on users walls.

None of the FBML expiriences I'd ever had were good, and I like many developers had switched to using the iFrame option that was available but came with it's own set of limitations i.e. sketchy page length recognition and no app tabs.

Facebook is relinquishing a great deal of control over what people do with their apps by swiching over to iFrames only, but by doing so allow people to be a lot more creative, and while a lot of FB control is gone, they will be requireing the use of their FB javascript SDK, but have not yet said to what extend or if other libraries can or can't be used.

To me, this makes up for the recent resizing of the available width of the app canvas from 760 px wide to 520px wide and makes me look forward to developing my next app!

Facebook Platform Roadmap Update

Yes, Coding is hard, sometimes it can be very hard. Thankfully it can be just as rewarding.

Becoming a coder takes dedication and education (formal or otherwise); becoming a GOOD coder takes time and practice.

During my time as a programmer I've both admired the code of those who've been at it longer than me, and enjoyed the triumph of a problem in a new coding language solved.

Recently I had the pleasure of stumbling across two blog posts that sum it up perfectly and also serve to prove that the struggles I have are not "just me".

POOR, POOR CHILD. YOU HAVE NO IDEA. - Bryan Woods

I Have No Talent - John Nunemaker

These guys are great, they put perfectly into words exactly how mind bendingly hard coding can be, how hard it can be to be patient and trust that practice and time will get us there, and how hard it can be to not abuse ourselves for not getting there faster.

brilliant!

We're proud to announce the launch of Kristin Pasternak Fine Jewelry!

During the summer Kristin gave me a call and a chance to prove that I could build a website better suited to her needs than the next guy. Happily I was given that chance.

Together we created a new company identity, and a great website that has a crisp clear design that did not get in the way of the beauty of the jewelry. Currently we're working on the shopping cart capapbilities of the site which will make this great site even better.

Working with Kristin is a treat, as a person who knows what she wants she has no trouble making a plan to get to where she wants to be then gets to it. If you have a chance to get to know her, take it!

In the meantime why don't you follow her on twitter - @kp_fine_jewelry

I'd recap my 2009 for you, but it was lack-luster enought to bore anyone to tears. oh sure, the clients are happy and thats most important to a developer, but what about me?

Being a developer, happiness comes with the completion of the more complicated projects, and so this year my focus will be on the challenge. keeping the focus on the challenge will make me a hapy developer and not only keep the clients happy, but thrilled.
